Visionary 101

The word visionary gets thrown around too easily in the computer industry, but Marc Canter gives a great demonstration in this post of how a true visionary behaves. He clearly explains how all the social websites need to open themselves up, so their users can truly control their own data. Sure he has horses in this race, but his vision makes the world better for users of everyone's products and even for his competitors. I've known Marc for over 20 years, and he keeps getting better. He has done a brilliant job of transforming himself from the merry prankster of video software to one of the great thinkers of Web 2.0. I can't count the number of times people have told me that he is a mensch. I agree. Gee, I'm getting a little verklempt here. You can listen to more of Marc's ideas on this podcast.
